Israel shocked by America's 'threat', crossing with Gaza opened after six months, help will reach Palestinians
Israel said on Friday it was taking steps to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, including reopening a border crossing into hard-hit northern Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced the plans. He made the announcement hours after US President Joe Biden told him that future US support for the war in Gaza would depend on Israel taking more steps to protect civilians and aid workers .
The Israeli announcement did not specify which items would be allowed to enter and in what quantity. Despite the differences, the Biden administration has continued to provide significant military aid and diplomatic support to Israel for Israel's war against Hamas. Israel is facing international isolation after seven aid workers were killed while helping deliver food to Gaza.
33,000 died
Gaza's health ministry said Thursday the death toll in Palestine rose to more than 33,000, while 75,600 others were injured. The security cabinet has approved the reopening of the Erez crossing between northern Gaza for the first time since the October 7 attacks, an Israeli official said. Israeli officials say the crossing will be opened to deliver humanitarian aid. The cabinet also approved the use of the Israeli port of Ashdod to help deliver more aid to Gaza.
