Karma is worship (story)

Once there was a severe drought in Mithila region. It became difficult for the people of Mithila, suffering from drought and famine, to get even a grain of grain. Due to lack of rain the trees and leaves withered. People started crying.

The King of Mithila opened the doors of the royal warehouse for his subjects, but he began to worry that it would not take long for the state's grain stores to be exhausted. What will happen when this grain store also becomes empty? He was also disturbed by the news of exploitation of people by moneylenders and grain sellers from different areas of Mithilanchal but was not in a position to do anything. The condition of the people and cattle of entire Mithila region was bad and people were being forced to migrate. Seeing this situation, the King of Mithila announced that any person who has the ability to cause rain through any meaningful ritual should come forward and organize the ritual in the interest of the kingdom.

Just a day or two after this announcement, a strong monk arrived in the court of Mithila king. He had not only applied a tilak on his forehead but also had covered his forehead with twenty pieces of sandalwood. He told the Maharaja that he was a perfect man and had performed rigorous penance for twenty years in a cave in the Himalayas. He is capable of inviting all the clouds including forty-nine winds, if proper arrangements and means for the Yagya ritual are found.

What does a blind man need – two eyes! Maharaj was impressed by the words of the sage and while respecting him a lot, he arranged for the Samidha prescribed by him for the Yagya ritual.

Preparations for the Yagya were made in a hurry.

A yagya-mandap was built in the open ground in front of the palace. This accomplished man started being discussed in the nearby villages. Some say - Baba is very miraculous, while others say - such a perfect man comes to earth after millions of years.

This incident happened at a time when Gonu Jha had gone outside Mithilanchal for some purpose. When he returned to his village, he heard that Maharaj had made arrangements to perform Megh Yagya to bring rain in Mithilanchal and 'Bees-Thoop-Baba', who had attained Siddhi by doing penance from the Himalayan cave, was performing this Yagya. On hearing this, Gonu Jha became restless. He realized that the person performing Megh Yagya would be an impostor and not trustworthy.

Anyway Gonu Jha was a dedicated person. Sadhus did not believe in Ganda, amulets etc. He used to enjoy a lot in opening the wrists of fake sadhus. Gonu Jha became active at his level and obtained various types of information about 'Bees-Thop-Baba'. For example, how they look, what they wear, how they speak, how they walk etc.

Next day, evening was about to set. There was a crowd of Mithila residents at the Yagya place and offerings were being made in the havan-kund. The mantra was being chanted. Then, breaking through the crowd of people, a short statured Sadhu reached the place of Yagya and said in a growling voice - "Why is this chanting of impure mantras? This is shaking the directions and angering the fire! If impure mantras are being chanted then If this continues, it will not be possible to avoid the possibility of evil!”

Suddenly the chanting stopped. The religion-fearing people of Mithila region were horrified to hear a brilliant sage speaking in such a solemn voice. It was as if everyone had been stabbed to death!

The monk performing the yagya was a little surprised to see this hindrance in the yagya and the divine looking sage because he could not believe that anyone could create a hindrance in the ritual started with the permission of the King of Mithila. Seeing the condition of the people participating in the Yagya, he immediately realized that if he remained silent, his 'influence' would be harmed, so getting up from the altar, he said angrily - "Who are you? How do you say that impure chanting is taking place?" ?"

The radiant looking sage said in a loud voice - "Fool, don't you recognize me? I am the hundred-thoop-maharaja who has chanted hundred crores of Indropasan mantras in hundred years in worship of Indra on the top of the Himalayas. Indra was pleased with me. God has given me a bamboo whose shaking causes rain and you are asking who am I to oppose the chanting of impure mantras?

The sadhu performing the yagya was internally scared of this answer, but to save his reputation in front of the people, he said - "Where do you keep this kind of bamboo?"

The bright looking sadhu said angrily, "Should I show it to hypocritical sadhus like you?"

Hearing this, the monk became calm and started moving backwards from the sacrificial place. When people interrupted him – Baba, where should we go? Then he said - Let's go to the field for a little doubt! Some people followed him but taking advantage of the darkness the monk hid in a bush. People returned disappointed.

On the other hand, the view of the sacrificial place had changed. Tejashwi had taken off his saffron cloak and removed his beard, mustache and dreadlocks and placed them near the Yagya Mandap. People saw – Hey, this is our Gonu Pandit!

Gonu Jha laughed and said to the people - "Have you seen the condition of the hypocritical saint? Hey brothers, learn to stay away from such hypocrites. If he was a perfect man, then why would he talk to Maharaj and you about donations and offerings? ? Explain brother! Go, engage in your own work. Understand, work is worship.
