Sergio Rico González

 Sergio Rico Profile

Sergio Rico González, commonly known as Sergio Rico, is a Spanish professional football (soccer) player who primarily plays as a goalkeeper. He was born on September 1, 1993, in Seville, Spain.

Rico began his football career in the youth academy of his hometown club, Sevilla FC. He progressed through the ranks and made his first-team debut for Sevilla in 2014. He quickly established himself as a reliable goalkeeper and played a crucial role in the team's success.

During his time at Sevilla, Sergio Rico won the UEFA Europa League three times consecutively from 2014 to 2016. He played a vital part in Sevilla's victorious campaigns and gained recognition for his performances. Rico's agility, shot-stopping abilities, and excellent reflexes made him a highly regarded goalkeeper.

In the summer of 2019, Sergio Rico moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on loan from Sevilla. He provided backup to the first-choice goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, and made several appearances for the club in domestic and European competitions. Rico's loan deal was later extended for the 2020-2021 season.

It's worth noting that my knowledge cutoff is in September 2021, and I may not have the most up-to-date information on recent events or transfers. If there have been any significant developments regarding Sergio Rico since then, I might not be aware of them.

In a heartfelt display of solidarity, Kylian Mbappe and the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) team honoured their injured teammate, Sergio Rico, during their Ligue 1 match against Clermont Foot. Rico, the goalkeeper for PSG, had suffered a critical injury after being struck by a runaway horse in Spain.

To show their support, the PSG players wore special shirts featuring Rico’s image, conveying their good wishes for his recovery. Furthermore, the team’s new home uniform incorporated Rico’s name on the back of each player’s shirt, symbolizing their unity and solidarity.

In the match, after Sergio Ramos had given PSG the lead, Kylian Mbappe scored a penalty, celebrating by pointing to Rico’s jersey. PSG decided to postpone their celebration of winning the Ligue 1 championship as a mark of respect for Rico’s condition.

In an emotional appeal on social media, Rico’s wife expressed her deep love and urged him not to leave her alone, emphasizing her inability to envision life without him.

Sergio Rico had been granted permission by PSG to travel to the El Rocio pilgrimage in Huelva, Spain, following the team’s victory against Strasbourg. Unfortunately, he was involved in an accident involving a horse and a mule cart, which led to his hospitalization.

Rico’s family reassured them that he is in capable hands and receiving top-quality care from the medical staff at Virgen del Rocio Hospital.

In response to the tragic incident, Paris Saint-Germain released a statement on Twitter earlier this week, expressing their support for Sergio Rico.

The entire Red and Blue community stands united with the player during this challenging time, and the club is awaiting the results of his medical tests. It is worth noting that PSG has emerged victorious in nine out of the last eleven championships.
