It is believed that Sudama was one of those devotees of Shri Krishna who was served by Shri Krishna himself and took care of him for life but it is believed that Sudama, the supreme devotee of Shri Krishna, was killed by Lord Shiva.

According to legend, Krishna devotees named Sudama and Viraja used to reside in Goloka Dham of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani. Both of them were engaged in devotion and unwavering service to Shri Krishna.
While doing Krishna devotion together, one day Sudama felt love for Viraja, but Viraja was completely in love with Krishna. Sudama told Viraja about his love.
Viraaja accepts Sudama's love but with the condition of following Krishna devotional time. Both Sudama and Viraja thought of telling this to Shri Krishna (living proof of Shri Krishna).
But before that Shri Radha Rani overheard both of them. Radha Rani got angry that there is no place for any emotion other than devotion to Krishna and love for Krishna in Goloka.
Sri Radha Rani cursed Sudama and Viraja to be born again on earth, after which Viraja was born as Tulsi and Sudama in the form of a conchshell in the Rakshasa clan at Dharmadhwaj.
It was the same Shankhchun who had created hue and cry in all the three worlds and kept everyone from heaven to earth in awe of his powers. Tulsi was married to Shankhchun.
Tulsi's wife Dharma used to protect Shankhchun because of maintaining the dignity of chastity and no one could defeat her in the war. It was then killed by Lord Shiva (symbol of Lord Shiva) with the help of Shri Krishna.
Thus Lord Shiva killed Sudama but in his rebirth. In the form of Sudama, he got supreme devotion, God's grace and a high place of service to Krishna's feet in Goloka.
